PAD 3034- Policy Development and Implementation

PAD 3800- Managing Global Cities

SYP 3456- Societies in the World

My Global Experience.

Every global learning class that I experience definitely taught me, but my favorite one has definitely been SYP 3456, Society in the World.  This class was an introduction to the study of local societies in a worldwide perspective. This course addresses local-global issues such as gender, social class, economy, politics, migration, and environmental destruction. Throughout the semester, we were able to do a research paper on a topic that we were interested in, and I did mine in the Inequalities of Urban Education. Throughout my research, I received a more in-depth knowledge of how the education system in society is truly affected by the economic status of its residents, and how that tie into socio-economic factors such as race and ethnicity.

Tuesday Round- Table Meetings

In Spring 2017, I attended the majority of the Tuesday Times Roundtable hosted by The New York Times. Each week moderators from different walks of life took a New York Times article and developed a spirited platform for a conversation about pressing topics in this ever changing world. A few of these talks shaped my way of thinking as a Global Citizen.

Professor Garcia from the Sociology department moderated a discussion on the development of non-religious communities in the United States. This talk resonated with me, as I moved away several times in the past couple years and I usually turn to religious organizations to find a sense of community. As the U.S. and other parts of the world begin to focus on more secular ideologies, watching the development of non-believers in the future will be an interesting event in terms of the ever-growing diverse identities appearing in the world.
